Everyone has a comfort food. Even if you’re not sure what yours is, trust me, you still have one. One of my most favorite comfort foods is spaghetti and meat sauce. This is a dish that I could go crazy eating if I don't watch myself. I've made it with ground beef, ground turkey, ground Italian sausage, but this was my first attempt at preparing it meatless.
I purchased the Beef-Less Ground Beef (above) from Trader Joe's. It was $2.99 for a 12 ounce package.
I bought these Meatless Meatballs from Trader Joe's too but these weren't as good as the Beef-Less Ground Beef in my opinion.
Now on to how I prepared my meat sauce for my spaghetti. First I cut half of a medium sized onion and threw it in my pot with a little olive oil. I sweated my onions over medium heat before tossing in a small jar of sliced mushrooms. Then I added my Beef-Less Ground Beef, seasoned it with garlic, basil and oregano powder and lastly I added in my tomato sauce then lowered everything to simmer for a bit while I put on my pasta to boil (with a side of sweet corn).
And this was my result! We were surprised at the taste of the Beef-Less Ground Beef. Now for the full disclosure and my own due diligence, a lot of these meatless products are made of soybeans which you should always do your own research to make sure you're getting the best and healthiest nutrition possible. Have you done any meatless meals? What did you use?
