My Meatless Spaghetti and Meat Sauce

Everyone has a comfort food. Even if you’re not sure what yours is, trust me, you still have one. One of my most favorite comfort foods is spaghetti and meat sauce. This is a dish that I could go crazy eating if I don't watch myself. I've made it with ground beef, ground turkey, ground Italian sausage, but this was my first attempt at preparing it meatless.

I purchased the Beef-Less Ground Beef (above) from Trader Joe's. It was $2.99 for a 12 ounce package.

I bought these Meatless Meatballs from Trader Joe's too but these weren't as good as the Beef-Less Ground Beef in my opinion.

Now on to how I prepared my meat sauce for my spaghetti. First I cut half of a medium sized onion and threw it in my pot with a little olive oil. I sweated my onions over medium heat before tossing in a small jar of sliced mushrooms. Then I added my Beef-Less Ground Beef, seasoned it with garlic, basil and oregano powder and lastly I added in my tomato sauce then lowered everything to simmer for a bit while I put on my pasta to boil (with a side of sweet corn).

And this was my result! We were surprised at the taste of the Beef-Less Ground Beef. Now for the full disclosure and my own due diligence, a lot of these meatless products are made of soybeans which you should always do your own research to make sure you're getting the best and healthiest nutrition possible.
