The first time we went to the Ruby Slipper, there was this long line of people waiting outside the restaurant in Downtown New Orleans to get in. Do you know what that means? That means the food is really delicious. So we just hopped in line behind the crowd because, come on, who stands in line for just ok food? Almost no one. Anyhoo, after we finally got in and got seated, I scanned the menu and zeroed in on the BBQ Shrimp and Grits (pictured above).
Sautéed Gulf shrimp with an amber beer & rosemary reduction, creamy stone-ground grits served with a buttermilk biscuit -$15
Let's just say that I didn't need any further proof of why so many folks were waiting outside to get in. I finished off my meal with a Brandy Milk Punch and all was well with the world that day after that. The Ruby Slipper is a good choice for breakfast, brunch or lunch, and they have multiple locations.
