The Fried Chicken Festival is moving in 2017! Last year it was a one day festival in Lafayette Square. This year, it's a 2-day festival on the river in Woldenberg Park. And look, I've lived here going on 4 years, I love Lafayette Square, it's in the Central Business District smack in the middle of downtown New Orleans, it's a smaller park (2.5 acres) but it has a nice "big city" feel. But Lafayette Square is quite quaint in size and couldn't possibly contain people's colossal love of FRIED CHICKEN. Because, come on, EVERYBODY loves fried chicken. See the FCF music lineup below:
So it's at Woldenberg this year which should accommodate it nicely (16 acres). Last year when we went, the crowds were MASSIVE. I really think it took the organizers by surprise... in a good way. But look, they've quickly course corrected with a new venue, they've added a 2nd day and probably even more fried chicken goodness. See how you can fest like a VIP at the FCF below:
The winner last year was Fiorella's Cafe (where you at Gentilly neighborhood?!!) and it was also the only fried chicken we were able to taste at the festival last year (the lines were insane). And I'm still looking forward to it this year, so if you're close by, mark your calendars for Saturday September 23 and Sunday September 24 for the 2nd Annual Fried Chicken Festival this year in New Orleans! So what else can you expect from The Fried Chicken Festival this year?
The festival features events including the Fried Chicken Tenders Eating Contest and the Best Fried Chicken Contest, judged by local and national food writers, bloggers and critics. Hosted at Woldenberg Park along the banks of the mighty Mississippi River, attractions include two music stages, the Moet Chicken and Champagne VIP Experience, the AT&T and Best Buy Football Lounge, the Sucre Sweet Spot, the Louisiana Federation for Children Kids Pavilion, GoNOLA Misting Lounge, and celebrity cooking demo stage. The adored ONE LOVE wall will make a return for festival goers to share messages of love and encouragement as well as what they love about fried chicken.
And check out The Gospel Brunch at the Fest!
This year, there will be a tent where you can Pay it Forward to help folks who were affected by the recent Hurricanes. So come on out to eat some good fried chicken and donate to a worthy cause!
That's me at the Fried Chicken Festival last year.
